Lots of Coffee ~
~ W7RBV ~ Rio Hotel ~ Finish Line ~
From early Saturday morning, until Sunday mid-day, W7RBV runs and coordinates ALL of the Ham Radio Volunteers, Stage Leads, and assists Race-Ops wherever we are needed. We do this through Local Repeaters in Las Vegas, and the Pahrump area, W7NYE that have all donated their equipment, and frequencies, every year for decades. It is NO small task. Communications between Las Vegas & Pahrump is a Vital to LINK to Each of the stages and to the Command Post W7RBV. Our volunteers relay information using Ham Radio from Baker, CA, to Las Vegas, NV and the finish line. 120~Miles through the desert, because,
Ham Radio Works Everywhere! And supporting The Baker to Vegas Challange Cup Relay is the primary goal of Each and Every Volunteer we have, in any way we can.
~ Our Tasks include ~ Getting set up hours before the first runners come through any given stage, Over 2-Days. Our ‘Mile Out’ Notification Operators (Hams / Non-Hams) are at each stage, and these volunteers are relaying race information ‘In-Real-Time’ to Our Stage Leads who then notify awaiting teams that their runner is coming in. Ultimately all of this information comes to The Command Post. All Race Timing Information, along with coordinating our volunteers at Each & Every stage, is Handled through Our Volunteer Ham Radio Operator Stage Leads. RadioBaker2Vegas Volunteers’ tasks will include;
⋅ Mile – Out
⋅ Logging ‘First-In’ runners. This is critical to assist Race-Ops to manage the race.
⋅ Each Runners ‘In-Out’ time, for just under 300 Teams.
⋅ Last runner ‘Tail End Charlie’
⋅ Stage Open / Close times
⋅ Assisting with Med-Ops / Race-Ops when needed.
⋅ Safety Patrol – * Vehicle + 2m / 440 Radio Required. This is a roving position on the Nevada side of the Race.
